Route 66 Centennial Sculpture Series - Springfield, MO
As part of Springfield’s Centennial Route 66 Festival, Emily was among the first selected artists commissioned to create two large-scale public sculptures. She was the only artist in her cohort to have both original concepts sponsored, spending a combined three months bringing the pieces to life. Her completed sculptures are now on permanent display outside the Springfield Art Museum and near the Queen City Gate at the Rail Haven Motel.

This piece is a celebration of glow, grit, and the golden era of American travel. Inspired by a childhood fascination with neon signs, old cars, and cross-country road trips, the design honors the vibrant spirit of Route 66 during its heyday. Using bold lines, saturated color, and the familiar hum of retro signage, this sculpture invites viewers to see the Mother Road through a lens of motion, light, and memory.
At its center is the silhouette of a Ford Fairlane, a classic among cars and a nod to the peak era of Route 66’s popularity. On the reverse, a motorcycle offers a complementary perspective of the road, representing freedom, individuality, and the raw connection between rider and landscape. The glowing route line, stretching across the “66” shield, does more than mark the map: it acts as a thread weaving together cultures, communities, and stories from across the country. Route 66 isn’t just a highway; it is a meeting point, a passageway, and a shared experience.
Buzz of the Mother Road celebrates energy. It’s a tribute to the warmth of nostalgia, the flickering signs, roadside diners, and stories shared behind the wheel. I hope this sculpture sparks recognition in others, a moment of remembering their own journey, or imagining one they’ve yet to take.

This sculpture honors a symbol that has stood the test of time, a Route 66 shield that may show its age, but carries stories that never fade. Like the travelers who’ve driven it, whether behind the wheel or astride a motorcycle, the sign has endured the elements, gathered character, and quietly collected memories. The rust, the chips, the wear, they aren’t flaws, they’re proof that it’s lived.
An Indian motorcycle emerges as a companion to the shield, representing independence, craftsmanship, and the enduring spirit of the open road. Every mile traveled past this sign left a mark, moments big and small that now echo through its surface. This piece isn’t polished or pristine, because neither is memory. It’s textured by experience, shaped by weather, and held together by meaning.
This sculpture doesn’t ask viewers to look back with nostalgia; it invites them to keep moving forward with appreciation. Every rust spot, stain, and scuff illustrates the character of a community proud of where it’s been, and ready for where it’s going.

Community Art Projects - Columbia, MO
Created as part of a sidewalk chalk competition for the Dog Days of Summer sale in downtown Columbia, MO, this temporary installation was designed to reflect the event's playful, community-centered atmosphere. I developed the concept, laid out the initial composition, and directed a small team to complete the final piece. The artwork was installed outside Alpine Shop to draw in foot traffic and celebrate the seasonal event.
School Murals & Installations - Clever, MO
These murals and a large-scale mosaic were completed as part of a collaborative summer school art program at Clever High School. Working in small teams, we designed and executed several indoor and outdoor murals across campus. While most projects were group-based, I also took a lead role in creating patterns for the 3D forms in the collaborative mosaic installation.
